ICCF Senior International Master

I'm American (from Iowa), born in 1956, retired military, and currently residing in Germany. I learned the moves of chess during the 1972 match between Fischer and Spassky, by following the game scores in the newspaper (you've heard that one before, haven't you?). I started playing in tournaments the same year.  I've been playing correspondence chess since 1978.

In 2001, I was awarded the International Master title by the ICCF.  I qualified for Senior International Master (SIM) in 2002 and received that title at the 2003 ICCF Congress.

In 1996, I started my first correspondence chess web page, which has grown into CORRESPONDENCECHESS.COM, which is now a huge domain with many sub-sites devoted to correspondence chess (and chess). At the 1999 ICCF Congress in Thun, Switzerland, CC.COM was one of the first web sites to receive the "Friend of ICCF" award, for service to the international correspondence chess community.

I was also the Publisher/Editor of the popular on-line magazine, Correspondence Chess News (CCN) (now defunct).

In addition, I have authored, published/edited eight printed/bound books: Essential Chess Quotations, Chess Without Borders,  the Correspondence Chess-player's Notebook, Personal Memoirs of P.H. SheridanHospital SketchesAssembling Chess IAssembling Chess II, and  Assembling Chess III,  all of which are available for purchase (see links on left).

I am an active player, and currently hold a master's rating in the following correspondence chess organizations: APCT, CCLA, USCF, IECC and IECG. Counting ICCF, that is six different organizations!
